Day 1 - Iron Butt continued

Sorry but I didn't have the strength to go into a lot of details last night. Attached are two pictures I took as we arrived at Rawlin, WY at around 9:30 pm after 16 1/2 hours in the saddle. We were both so worn out we could barley hold the bikes up. The odometer is the top right reading and the time is the 3rd down.

As we started the day we were both rested from our layover day although I woke up at 1:30 am and never went back to sleep because I was thinking of what lay ahead. The first 200 miles was torture. I could not get comfortable no matter how I moved on the bike. At 400 miles I had actually got in a zone and the pain was bearable and I started thinking we could do this. At 700 miles I was in pain again but we only had 300 to go. The worse was the last 100 miles. We hit Cheyenne and had to head up the pass and knew it would be cold, dark and long distances between places to stop. We both were determined to finish this so put on warmer jackets and headed West. When I hit 1000 miles on my GPS we knew we made it but still had 38 miles to go to the next town. It was dark, cold, and we were riding at 75 mph + to get to the end. I was behind Jim and all I could think of was how tired I was and what would I do if Jim hit a deer.

We made it OK. We both were happy to have it over but still it was an accomplishment few bikers have made and I am glad to be a member of the Iron Butt Society.
